How to Choose a Beach Cooler for a Full Day

The cooler features, sizes and carrying options to consider before your next beach trip.

How to Choose a Beach Cooler for a Full Day

Start with capacity

Choose cooler capacity around the amount of food and drinks your group actually needs. A larger cooler can add useful capacity, but it also becomes harder to move across sand.

Think about transport

Wheels can help when the route from parking to the beach is long and relatively firm. Backpack or shoulder options can be more practical where stairs, soft sand or uneven paths make rolling difficult.

Consider insulation and access

Look for a construction and closure system that fits your use. A full-day beach trip benefits from good organization so frequently used drinks and snacks can be reached without leaving the cooler open for long periods.

Pack it efficiently

Pre-chill food and drinks when practical, use frozen bottles as reusable cold packs, and keep the cooler in shade whenever possible. Avoid leaving it in a hot vehicle between stops.

Before you buy

Compare dimensions, carrying method, cleaning requirements and intended capacity. Product specifications and availability can change, so confirm the current retailer listing before purchasing.
